Last May, the Italian municipality of Buttrio hosted 60% of global steel production during the Danieli InnovAction Meeting, confirming itself once again the world capital of sustainable steel. After the disruption caused by Covid that brought to the cancelation of the event in 2020, Danieli Group’s meeting returned, attracting 728 entrepreneurs and experts from 5 continents and 75 countries to the company’s headquarters, in the North of Italy.
Second place among Italian provinces for the value of steel exports, Udine demonstrated one more time to be the hub of innovation for the sector thanks to the Friulan Group, which is among the world leaders in the design and construction of steel plants and among the top three steel producers in Europe. Previously presented at a press conference by Danieli Group CEOs Giacomo Mareschi Danieli and Rolando Paolone, Danieli’s Vice President and ABS President Camilla Benedetti and ABS CEO Stefano Scolari, the event offered the opportunity to evaluate and learn about the most modern technologies available today. The three-day meeting was divided into four thematic panels dedicated to the topics of macroeconomic and geopolitical trends, raw materials and metals market, availability of renewable energies and the digitization of plants.
“The market is changing rapidly – said Camilla Benedetti – and it requires innovation and resilience. Our group, born from a small reality, can now offer 25 product lines, closed its balance sheet with over 4 billion in revenue, and has an order backlog of 6 billion“. She then stressed the importance of solid fundamentals to face “new challenges”, especially environmental ones. On this note, Dim guests also had the opportunity to visit some examples of sustainable steel industry like the exclusive Danieli technology Mida, the QOne electric furnace, the DUE (Danieli Universal Endless) and the new direct reduction plants powered by hydrogen. For the occasion, Daneli Group confirmed as well the progress of the partnership project with Metinvest, “a complex operation” as emphasized by the CEO who assured that the company is “moving forward to create the first plant of its kind in Europe”.
