A major industrial shipment has set sail from Porto Nogaro, in the province of Udine, marking one of the largest logistics operations ever managed at the port. The cargo, consisting of 8,000 cubic meters of steel processing equipment, was loaded onto the break-bulk vessel BBC Fuji by Midsea, a subsidiary of the Midolini Group, on behalf of Danieli Group, a leading global manufacturer of industrial machinery.
The shipment is destined for Monfalcone, where it will be further loaded until reaching a total of 5,000 tons, with an estimated value of approximately $600 million. Once fully loaded, the BBC Fuji will embark on its journey to New Orleans, where the equipment will be used in the construction of a cutting-edge steel plant by U.S. steel giant Nucor.
Upon arrival in the United States, the materials will be transported to the construction site using a fleet of around 100 trucks and several barges navigating the Mississippi and Ohio Rivers. The components shipped include ten massive structural supports for the steel plant, each weighing between 140 and 160 tons, along with additional materials produced at Danieli Group’s facility in Buttrio, Italy. This shipment is part of a larger $3.2 billion investment by Nucor in a new steel mill featuring Danieli’s Universal Endless (DUE) rolling technology. This advanced system enables the production of steel strips with variable thicknesses ranging from 0.8 a 25.4 millimeters, significantly enhancing efficiency and production capabilities.
The logistics operation has also involved the maritime agency Ferest Shipping, part of the Midolini Group, which acted as the customs broker for Danieli Group and the shipping agent for the vessel’s owner, BBC Chartering GmbH, through its general agent Creuza de Ma in Genoa.
